Winter weather is coming, prepare today for tomorrow.Winter Weather Update A Winter Storm Watch is effective Wednesday for Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer, northwest Burlington, Gloucester, Camden, Salem, and Cumberland Counties. Snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain are forecast statewide Wednesday. Precipitation is forecast to start as snow, changing to a wintry mix, and transitioning to rain from southwest to northeast by Wednesday night. Impacts to New Jersey Frozen precipitation can create slippery conditions on roadways, sidewalks, ramps, bridges, and other surfaces. Visibilities may be reduced during heaviest snowfall. A light glaze of ice is possible for counties north and west of I-95. Precipitation may impact some locations during commuting hours. Monitor local forecasts for updates in your area. ✅Here are a few safety tips! ⌚️The time to prepare for winter emergencies is now. Learn more at http://ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/winter.shtml 🔥Warm your home safely! Use ONLY safe sources of alternate heat such as a fireplace, a small well-vented wood or coal stove, or portable space heaters. Always follow manufacturers' instructions and never substitute one type of fuel for another. Visit: http://ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/winter.shtml to learn how to prepare your family for winter emergencies. 🙋Be a good neighbor! Check on those vulnerable to the cold. Need a Warming Center? Go to https://www.nj211.org/nj-warming-centers or call NJ 2-1-1 for assistance. ⚠️Precipitation may freeze on cold surfaces creating icy conditions on roads, sidewalks, and untreated surfaces. Use caution on the roads! Slow down and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. Leave extra time to reach your destination. 🚗Check 511nj.org for traffic updates! ☎️If the power goes out, know how to contact your local power company to report an outage or down power line. Get public utility contact information and power outage maps at http://ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/public-utilities.shtml ⚠️ALWAYS assume downed power lines are live. NEVER TOUCH THEM! 🐾Pets are family too! Bring them indoors! If you’re cold, they are cold! Visit animalemergency.nj.gov to find out more! 📻Be sure to check your local weather before making plans!
